Recording
Record your own practice runs inside Dashi Dance.
Recording lets you dance along with a reference and capture yourself doing it, hands-free. Start from a project (add → Record) or straight from the Player's ⋯ menu — your playhead, mirror, speed, and loop carry over into the recording screen.

A Res/FPS pill sits above the record button — tap it to change the resolution and frame rate for this recording session (the options on offer depend on what your device and camera support). Its defaults come from Settings → Recording.
While recording
The reference plays at whatever speed you set, and recording can stop itself once the reference ends — auto-stop, on by default in Settings. Orientation, and your whole playback setup (speed, mirror, loop, and the rest), lock once recording starts — so get them the way you want beforehand. Until recording starts, all of these controls — plus Pitch and EQ — work exactly as in the Player.
The ⋯ menu
- Switch layout — toggle between side-by-side and stacked panes
- Flip — swap which pane sits on top or on the left
- Countdown — a lead-in timer before recording starts, so you can get into position (see below)
- the view-mode row (shown here as Show source only) — cycles between showing the source only, your camera only, or both
- Use back camera — switch between front and back cameras; on a device with a flash, a torch toggle also appears once the back camera is active
Countdown options are Off, 3s, 5s, or 10s.

After you stop
A review card shows a thumbnail of the take and lets you name it, then Discard it, Save it as a Practice in the project, or Save & Compare — which saves the take and jumps straight into Comparison against the source.
Audio: your mic and the reference
Recording captures your microphone alongside the reference audio. When playing a recorded practice back — or exporting it — you choose which one to hear.
Recording settings
Settings → Recording holds the defaults new sessions start with: Countdown, Video Quality — HD (1080p), or 4K when the camera supports it — and Frame Rate (30/60) — also switchable from the Res/FPS pill on the recording screen itself. Auto-stop recording ends a take when the reference reaches its end, or the end of an A/B loop. Auto-export to Photos saves each take to your Photos "Dashi Dance Practice" album when you save it — whether you tap Save or Save & Compare. See Where exports are saved.
Permissions
Recording needs camera and microphone access — the recording screen offers an Open Settings shortcut if either is denied. Saving a take, or exporting one, needs Photos add access. See FAQ & Troubleshooting if a permission prompt isn't showing up the way you expect.
Common questions
Can I change the layout or camera?
Yes — open the ⋯ menu: Switch layout toggles side-by-side and stacked panes, Flip swaps which one is on top, and Use back camera switches which camera records.
Why did recording stop by itself?
Auto-stop ends the take when the reference finishes. Turn it off in Settings → Recording if you'd rather stop manually.
Where did my take go?
Saved takes are Practices in the project. Auto-export additionally saves a copy to your Photos "Dashi Dance Practice" album if you've enabled it — see Where exports are saved.
My recording has no sound
Check microphone permission, and check which audio — mic or reference — you've chosen to hear when playing the take back.
