The Player

Loop, slow down, and mirror reference videos with precise audio sync.

The Player is the full-screen view for watching a Project's Source or reviewing a Practice. Controls float over the video and auto-hide after a few seconds — tap the video to bring them back.

At a glance

  • The left transport cluster: play/pause, restart, and two frame-step buttons (frame-step pauses and moves exactly one frame, forward or back).
  • The right feature cluster: mirror, speed, A/B loop, and the ⋯ menu.
  • The scrubber, in its own strip below.

Scrubbing

Drag the scrubber to move the playhead — playback pauses while you drag and resumes when you let go, with a time tip floating above your finger. Press and hold the playhead to zoom into precise scrub: a roughly 15-second window spread across the full scrubber width for frame-accurate seeking. Release to zoom back out.

Loop a section (A/B loop)

Tap the loop button, then Set A and Set B at the moments you want — or skip the window and drag the A/B handles directly on the scrubber. Playback wraps from B back to A continuously. Loops must be at least one second long. Clear, in the same window, removes the loop.

Slow down or speed up

Pick a preset chip — 0.5×, 0.8×, 1×, 1.2×, or 1.5× — or drag the slider for finer control across the full 0.25×–3× range in 0.05 steps. Slowing down or speeding up never changes the pitch of the audio.

Mirror

Mirror flips the video horizontally, so a dancer facing the camera faces the same way you do — the easiest way to learn from performance footage.

The ⋯ menu

Record jumps into recording, carrying over your playhead, mirror, speed, and loop; Export bakes your current settings into a video, saved to your Photos "Dashi Dance Practice" album (see Where exports are saved); Pitch and EQ, both marked Pro, open the audio tools — they have their own page. The Recording and Comparison screens have their own menus with different options.

Audio sources & the waveform

Audio-only sources — like a rehearsal mix with no video — show:

  • A scrolling waveform pinned to the playhead in place of a video.
  • The same scrubber below.

There's no mirror button, since there's no video to flip. Audio keeps playing when you lock the screen or switch apps, and the lock screen / Control Center controls work for play/pause, restart, and scrub.

Common questions

Does slowing down change the pitch?

No — speed changes use time-stretching, which preserves pitch. Use Pitch to transpose the audio separately.

How do I export what I set up?

Open ⋯ → Export. It bakes your mirror, speed, loop trim, audio choice, and any pitch/EQ adjustments into a video saved to your Photos "Dashi Dance Practice" album — see Where exports are saved.

Can I practice with the screen off?

Yes — audio keeps playing in the background, controllable from the lock screen.
